Mercedes AMG GT R

The tuning house AMG has been churning out some of the most extreme Mercedes' for years and this is one is no exception. It looks monstrous with the flared arches, carbon splitters and Green Hell Magmo paint (actual name). This is sort of the Mr Hyde of the Mercedes GT. This car is between the even more extreme GT Black edition and the less scary GTS. Inside it is much the same as the normal GT but with yellow stitching and that little yellow knob (below centre air vents.) That little knob is the key to 9 levels of Traction control, seriously what were they thinking? Anyway I like the high transmission tunnel and shiny buttons.

Under the bonnet lurks a Biturbo V8 which delivers 577bhp to the rear wheels. 0-60 in 3.6seconds and a 199mph top speed. Prices start at £143,245 which is OK but a high spec GTS is 25k cheaper. The GTR has grown 57mm wider than the GT and it has venturis at the rear and a fixed carbon wing.

Verdict

A brutal, green racing machine. The GTR is a brilliant machine but I'd either save and get the insane Black series edition or buy the GT convertible and have a few thousand to spend on something. If you haven't already noticed I love fast Mercs but I think this one has filled a gap that doesn't need to be filled.
